Wind Along the Coast (Short Film)

A great animated movie  by Ivan Maximov. This time it is not rainy, but windy. One morning in a coastal village an unbeknown wind occurs, and events happen…

It is very effective. As much as reading a wonderful book.

‘Ederlezi’ Collection

A song, which includes whole story of the Gypsies…  It has became  famous by Emir Kustarica’s movie, Time of the Gypsies (1988)

Ederlezi that word is thought to be a variation of  Hıdırellez in Anatolia and Kurdistan. It is a feast day like Nouroz (or Newroz). Nouroz and Hıdırellez both symbolizes the beginning of new season. Nouroz  repressents in 21 March, while Hıdırellez in 5 May.

And that song. I think it is like a secret Anthem of the Gypsies. It depicts Gypsy’s sad story.  Now look at its lyrics and then listen to Ederlezi Collection by various musiciens.:

Ederlezi’s lyrics in Romani and its translation in English:

Sa me amala oro khelena      (All my friends are dancing the oro)
Oro khelena, dive kerena     (Dancing the oro, celebrating the day)
Sa o Roma daje                (All the Roma, mommy)
Sa o Roma babo babo      (All the Roma, dad, dad)
Sa o Roma o daje             (All the Roma, oh mommy)
Sa o Roma babo babo      (All the Roma, dad, dad)
Ederlezi, Ederlezi            (Ederlezi, Ederlezi)
Sa o Roma daje             (All the Roma, mommy)

Sa o Roma babo, e bakren chinen    (All the Roma, dad, slaughter lambs)
A me, chorro, dural beshava         (But me, poor, I am sitting apart)
Romano dive, amaro dive             (A Romany day, our day)
Amaro dive, Ederlezi                   (Our day, Ederlezi)

E devado babo, amenge bakro     (They give, Dad, a lamb for us)
Sa o Roma babo, e bakren chinen      (All the Roma, dad, slaughter lambs)
Sa o Roma babo babo                        (All the Roma, dad, dad)
Sa o Roma o daje                       (All the Roma, oh mommy)
Sa o Roma babo babo           (All the Roma, dad, dad)
Ederlezi, Ederlezi                (Ederlezi, Ederlezi)
Sa o Roma daje                    (All the Roma, mommy)

Now lets listen to some musicien who sing it… I made a collection of Ederlezi:

Beirut’s Ederlezi: American music band Beirut has performed it. I like it they did a great work…

Besa Kokedhima’s Ederlezi: Albanian singer also has performed it. That shows that Ederlezi is a common value in all Balkans.

Dikanda’s Ederlezi Koncert w Piwnicy Kana Szczecin: Polish music band also performed it very good.

Maria Deligianni’s Ederlezi: Deligianni is also a Balkani, who performed Ederlezi.

Avela’s Ederlezi: That would be great for a countryside wedding ceremony… I imagine dancing villager by it…

Edna’s Ederlezi:

Jennifer Crestol’s Ederlezi:

Nigel Kennedy’s Ederlezi: British singer has also performed Ederlezi.

Goran Bregovic’s Ederlezi: I wanted to make the final with the most important one. Goran Bregovic played a great role in making that song such popular….
